Blue Monkey Internship Program

Interns gain hands-on experience in a variety of theatrical disciplines while working closely with professional staff, designers, performers and other artists. The program combines experience both on-stage and backstage with advanced weekly instruction, allowing interns to explore a range of theater arts in a focused, professional atmosphere with exceptional like-minded peers.

Saturday class

lnterns participate in a weekly class, led by Blue Monkey Education Director Brian Allard and occasional guest instructors. The class meets Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm, from September to mid-May and covers:

  • Introduction to basic acting technique and style work
  • Scene and monologue study
  • Audition workshops, focusing both on professional auditions and college auditions
  • Occasional break-out master classes, held outside class time, with local theater professionals working in their area of expertise.

Attendance is mandatory at the Saturday class.

Technical credit

Blue Monkey lnterns have the opportunity to work backstage on one production as an assistant stage manager, a stagehand, a wardrobe dresser or a booth technician. A professional work ethic is mandatory and interns are required to commit to the entire tech schedule and performance run.

Acting credit

lnterns will be offered the experience to work on stage as an actor in at least one of Blue Monkey’s mainstage productions. Interns are automatically invited to all Blue Monkey callbacks and may appear in more than one show a season, if cast. lnterns are required to commit to the full rehearsal schedule and performance run. Roles and production assignments are completely at the Artistic Director’s discretion.

Other activities

lnterns will be asked to assist with various Blue Monkey fundraising events and galas. These events are not mandatory; however they are an excellent opportunity to help support the arts in your community.

Step 3: Interview – Those selected for interview will be contacted by mid July to set up a time in early August.

Those selected will be notified by August 24. Classes will begin in early September.
